“The Monochrome Video Week” – Ateliers DeMonaco, Discover an Atelier created for Nobility

Don’t be fooled by the fact that Ateliers DeMonaco is owned by watch brand Frederique Constant, and by the other fact that now-a-days both are owned by the Japanese brand Citizen. Here, unlike Constant, accessible luxury is not the rule. Noblesse Oblige is the brand’s motto, and a genuine passion for fine watchmaking, interesting complications, superior finishing, and devotion to traditions is what determines the world of Ateliers DeMonaco. Follow us in a manufacture visit of Ateliers DeMonaco, discover their unique high-end watches and let Pim Koeslag explain you all about this discreet but highly desirable watch brand.

Bringing Back The Golden Age Of Travel With Glashütte Original

We live in a fast-paced, hyper-connected world of couch surfing, ride sharing, instant communication and all manner of other technological marvels I can barely grasp. Not surprisingly we are now travelling more than ever before – both domestically and internationally – which is great. The problem? Travel has become such a common place occurrence that many of us seem to have forgotten how to dress for the occasion. Chic dresses have been replaced by yoga pants, tailored suits passed over in favour of jeans with a stretchy waist and don’t even get me started on the watches (or lack thereof). It wasn’t always this way though you know.

Pre-SIHH 2017 – Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Collection, Celebrating 60 Years of Ultra-Thin Watches

Keep these three informations in mind: 1957 – 9P – 2mm. Three informations that sum up an immense technical achievement and define an icon of the watchmaking industry: the Altiplano. If we had to summarize Piaget to one single fact, it would inevitably be “ultra-thin” watches – even if this would clearly be a disappointing shortcut. Since 1957, Piaget is one of the best, if not the most significant representative of the ultra-thin concept, a story that started with the calibre 9P and its 2mm height (and now, you know why these three informations are so important). To celebrate 60 years of ultra-thin watchmaking, here is the Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Collection, to be introduced at the SIH 2017.

The New A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase, now with Integrated Day/Night Indicator

The Lange 1 is the icon of the A. Lange & Söhne collection since its re-inception, in 1994. Back then, it was a quite disruptive, yet hyper-elegant watch… and it still is. Another recurring theme at A. Lange & Söhne is the moon, which can be found on several watches of the Saxonian Manufacture – See the Saxonia Moon Phase. So what if you combine both? You’ll have the Lange 1 Moon Phase. And since the standard Lange 1 went under a slight but welcomed update in 2015, it is time now for the moon version to benefit from the new Lange 1 movement and from a new day/night indication, right into the moonphase indication. Here is the new, SIHH 2017, A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase (not to be confused with the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase).

Pre-SIHH 2017 – Baume & Mercier adds a GMT Function and a Blue Dial to its Clifton

The Baume & Mercier Clifton is not just a watch but an entire collection, which looks at the almost entire scope of traditional (yet accessible) complications. You’ll be able to find a Small-Second watch, a Complete Calendar watch, a Chronograph, a Chronograph Complete Calendar, a Dual Time, a Retrograde Date or a Large Date Power Reserve. Clearly, the choice is wide (and add to that some dials options). For the SIHH 2017, Baume adds a version for travelers, the Clifton GMT Power Reserve, which aligns itself among the range of small complications offered by the Clifton collection and adds a striking blue dial to the usual white / black options.

Introducing the SNSM Watch Project – Young Watchmakers Design a Limited Edition for a Good Cause

The Atelier Parisien d’Horlogerie (APH) is launching a limited edition watch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SNSM (Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer) a French voluntary association tasked with saving the lives of those lost at sea around the French coasts. Nearly 8’000 people were rescued last year by the NGO, which has 1,300 lifeguards on staff and a further 4,400 active volunteers. The proceeds from the watch sales will benefit SNSM which relies largely on the generosity of the public for funding.

In-depth – A dead second to die for: A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping seconds

There is something definitively down to earth about the minimalist A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds. The pure, meticulous design is splendid; striking visual simplicity at its best. But there is a lot more than meets the eye. Underneath its dial beats a superb and highly complex movement with dead second, constant force mechanism, zero-reset and an end-of-power reserve indication, all crafted in harmony with the Saxon manufacture’s ethos of no compromise.

Reviewing the Ulysse Nardin Classico Manufacture (photos, specs and price)

Earlier this year we already introduced the stainless steel Ulysse Nardin Classico Manufacture with enamel dial, and we loved it, however we have not yet shown its sister (yes, a watch is female: la montre), the Classico Manufacture with blue sun-ray dial. The other day we were able to look more closely at this incredibly beautiful looking dress watch that has one downside: the dial is so appealing that people want to see your watch more closely all the time.

MeisterSinger Presents The “Peter Henlein” Edition, with Circularis Calibre, Gold Case… And A Gorgeous Antique-style Dial

Some rules are made to be broken. When you think MeisterSinger, you usually have in mind accessible watches (yet with automatic movements) and single-hand displays. Well, if that second rule is somehow a motto for the brand, the first one will be transgressed today… and we’re not complaining, as what you’ll see is a proper good looking watch. Here is the MeisterSinger Peter Henlein Edition, with proprietary Circularis Calibre, a gold case, a 5 digit price tag, a super-restricted limitation, and that crazy looking antique dial.

Discreet Elegance and Modernity with the Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline Moonphase

There are multiple reasons that create appeal for a watch. For some, it will be the name printed on the dial. For others, it will be all about mechanics and the beauty of the finishing. However, what might be a common point for all is the intrinsic beauty of the design and the elegance on the wrist, whatever how nice a movement can be or whatever how delicate its finishing is. With the Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline Moonphase, you’ll both enjoy a great elegance, especially in the blue version we have today, with the beauty of mechanics… and for a very reasonable price. Overview of a modern and elegant watch.
