Video – TAG Heuer Carrera – The Story of an Iconic 55-Year-Old Chronograph

This year, TAG Heuer is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its most iconic watch, the Carrera. Born in 1963, designed by Jack Heuer himself to answer the needs of motorsports pilots, named after one of the most legendary races (the Carrera Panamericana), the recipe was simple: a clean, uncluttered, ultra-legible and reliable instrument to measure […]

The microbrand watch scene seems infinite. With an explosion of new brands, we’ve reached a point where it has become impossible to keep track of these, from high-end to low-end, and everything in between. Multiple brands have come and gone over the past years. Among these, Minase, a Japanese brand, stands out with a unique […]

Pre-SIHH 2019 – IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium (Hands-On)

This is it… 2019 will be the year of the Pilot’s Watch at IWC. Don’t expect to see the entire range being remodelled, as that had been done already in 2016 – with a new Big Pilot and the Mark XVIII for instance. However, expect to see some nice new editions, some good-old designs brought back to life and some mechanical improvements. But before the real fireworks start at the SIHH 2019 in January, IWC teases us with 4 new pieces, including this new Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium ref. IW371815.

Hands-on – Fortis B-42 Official Cosmonauts Chronograph

Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt. Vogt’s idea was to design watches of outstanding qualities that would deserve the name Fortis or strong in Latin. Since then, the brand is known for its rugged, functional watches and for its long-lasting connection with aviation and space exploration. In particular, Fortis watches became part of the standard equipment for Cosmonauts, cooperating with Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency (Editor’s note, the word Cosmonaut itself is used by the Russian Space Agency whereas, for NASA, one would use Astronaut). The first Fortis Cosmonaut watch flew into space in 1994 as Russia was operating the MIR space station. A second version – again for Roscosmos, specifically as the ISS followed MIR – was designed some 10 years later. Since then, several versions have been produced including the steel B-42 we are reviewing here.

Hands-on – The New Seiko Presage Urushi Byakudan-nuri SPB085, with Stunning Hand-Lacquered Dial

Since its worldwide introduction in 2016, the Seiko Presage collection never ceased to impress. It all started with superb limited edition chronographs with enamel or hand-lacquered Urushi dials (just that…), watches that have been followed by regular production models with enamel dials or funky “cocktail” inspiration, as well as impressive limited editions such as the Shippo. In two years, Seiko has made Presage a collection as interesting as Prospex. Following this trend, the brand unveils today a new limited edition, the Seiko Presage Urushi Byakudan-nuri SPB085 – and here again, it brings traditional, hand-made Urushi at a stunning price level.

Pre-SIHH 2019 – Piaget Altiplano Tourbillon Meteorite (Hands-On)

The pre-SIHH 2019 blitz has started… so hold on tight and get ready for a volley of novelties. This year Piaget goes for a galactic touch and has given its ultra-thin Altiplano a dial made from a sliver of meteorite. Countering our earthly gravitation with a flying tourbillon, this limited edition Altiplano is lit up with diamonds on the bezel. We were fortunate enough to get our hands on this Piaget model before it will be officially unveiled in Geneva next January.
