SPOTTED – What’s On The Wrist Of Emmanuel Macron, The New French President? (Updated with new details)

Except if you spent the last few weeks alone in some North-Pole cave, with no access to the World, you might have seen that France has a new President, in the name of Emmanuel Macron. No politics here, but as a watch magazine, the question of what type of watch Mister Macron could wear immediately came at the redaction. And knowing the Frenchies and their usual no external signs of wealth policy, it has been quite difficult… But we found out what can be, sometimes, on the wrist of Emmanuel Macron.

Hands-On with the new Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti

Last year, at Baselworld 2016, Hublot demonstrated again their concept of “fusion“, this mix of different materials, sometimes rather unusual for watches, with an interesting combination. The brainchild of a partnership between the watchmaker and Berluti, the famous Parisian shoemaker, they applied patinated leather not only for the straps but also on the dials – creating what I personally found one of the most appealing creations of the brand. Today, the same concept is applied on a chronograph, the Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti.

The Dive Watch From The Far North – The S.U.F. Helsinki Vetehinen By Sarpaneva

Rough, cold, with a unique character and surprisingly though, fascinating… This description, which you might imagine being dedicated to this contrasting country that is Finland, will be equally relevant when talking about the new S.U.F. Helsinki Vetehinen, the brand’s first dive watch. A Finnish watch made by Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva, playing with the codes and transposing them in his unique universe, resulting in a watch that simply feels different, in a very good way.

Hands On With The Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date in Steel

I don’t know about you but when I think Glashütte Original, I generally think formal watches, exceptionally finished but a bit more sombre in design. That’s not to say the German watchmaker is afraid to use a bit of color (just look at the Sixties Iconic Square collection) but typically speaking, I would not describe the brand’s watches as particularly ‘young’ looking. That is until I got my hands on the new Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date in steel.

Nocturnal Camouflage – The New Bell & Ross BR03-92 Black Camo

After incursions in the world of sports cars (with the Aero-GT collection), in the Formula 1 field (with the BR-X1 RS16 or the brand new RS17 collection), after skull-inspired watches or even high-end watchmaking, Bell & Ross goes back to its beloved roots: military pieces. Stealth, dark, inspired by military-specifications, highly legible but still very much integrated in its environment, here is the new Bell & Ross BR03-92 Black Camo.

Hands-On – The Redesigned Edition of the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic

First introduced in the middle of the year 2013, apart from the SIHH and in a rather quiet way, the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic was a more technical (new movement) but highly faithful (a design that is deeply based on the Portugieser’s DNA) take on a watch that has been a cornerstone in the collection. For 2017, this now-classic model receives a discreet facelift, focused on the essential. Here is the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic 2017 Edition IWC3903.

Bringing Complexity In A Commoner Attire – The Rolex Sky-Dweller In Steel or Rolesor

A Steel Sky-Dweller… This is a watch many of us were secretly hoping for (we did) but we knew chances to see it would be small. Well, it seems that dreams can become reality, as here we are: for Baselworld 2017, Rolex introduced its most complicated watch – and what certainly is the ultimate traveller’s watch – in commoner attires; meaning more casual look and more accessible prices. Here are the Rolex Sky-Dweller Steel ref. 326934 and Two-Tone ref. 326933, and they come with more than just a material evolution.

La Dolce Vita Di Omega – The New Seamaster Edizione Venezia

What an unexpected but refreshing surprise… Clearly, dress watches are not Omega’s specialty – chronographs and dive watches are, but in terms of elegant and dress timepieces, their offer is short. However, Omega has decided to prove us wrong, with an extremely elegant, perfectly proportioned and true-to-the-past watch, the new Seamaster Edizione Venezia, to be sold exclusively in Venice, Italy – a perfect excuse to bring your “bella ragazza” around the floating city.
