Value Proposition – French Brand YEMA Reissues the Iconic Superman – and it’s a 1-on-1 reedition of the 1970 model

Watchmaking isn’t only a Swiss story. Watches have been produced in many other countries, including France. Unfortunately, the Quartz Crisis dragged most of the French manufactures down, including Yema – certainly one of the most iconic French brands – which has been revived recently. As part of an upcoming “Heritage” collection, the brand is now presenting its first model and I’m proud to say that it is a faithful and automatic re-edition of its legendary dive watch. Meet the 2018 Yema Superman Heritage.

Hands-on – Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day

Chronoswiss has built its reputation around an easily recognizable design first and, most importantly, on their extensive (for over 30 years now) use of a specific display: the regulator. Quite old-school for some years, the brand has been revived recently and has started to offer stronger and more modern designs, for instance with the Flying Regulator Open Gear or a Bit-Coin inspired watch. Today, the brand presents a new model with added complications: the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day.

A few years ago, when you mentioned the name Peter Speake-Marin, you probably had in mind an independent watchmaker with creativity and complex watches – such as a fully-opened tourbillon minute repeater… This was before Peter sold his company and left to become someone else, independent again. After starting a unique concept named “The Naked Watchmaker”, Peter Speake-Marin is back in the watch game with something truly unexpected: affordable watches. Meet Stoic World.

Introducing – URWERK UR-105 CT Kryptonite

At URWERK, there are recurring themes. The first and main one is that unique display, based on the satellite wandering-hours indication, which has defined most of the brand’s watches for now over 20 years. Another one is the combination of black case and bright coloured indexes. With the brand’s latest creation, the URWERK UR-105 CT Kryptonite (a variation around an already existing watch, the Streamliner), Luminosity is at centre stage.

Introducing – Leica Camera Enters The Watch Game with the L1 & L2 Models

While cars and watches are known to be highly related worlds, photography and watches apparently don’t share many links. Yet, several already existing examples showed this connection – think Ming watches by photographer Ming Thein or shutter-inspired Valbray watches. Today, the story is different, as it’s one of the most prominent camera manufacturers that is entering the watch game, you name it: Leica. With “Made in Germany” in mind and quite an impressive mechanical package, meet the Leica L1 & L2 watches.

Hands-on – Anonimo Militare Chronograph WRC Special Edition

When you think about the Italian brand Anonimo, it’s more than likely that military-inspired chronographs (the Militare collection) and dive watches (the Nautilo line), both with cushion-shaped cases, spring to mind. However, things are changing at Anonimo as the brand evolves in new directions and enlarges its scope, for example with the Epurato collection – a […]

Women’s Watch Wednesday – Rolex Daytona Rainbow Everose Gold 116595RBOW – Deliberately Flamboyant

What happens when the iconic Daytona runs into a tutti-frutti trove of precious gemstones? The Rainbow Daytona: a spectacular watch that combines the thrill of the racetrack with the thrill of vibrant gemstones. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 116595RBOW, aka the Rainbow Daytona, is a “wow watch”. Exuberant and downright flamboyant, it’s either yes or no, love or hate, but you can’t help reacting to it. Now in its third iteration, the model unveiled at Baselworld 2018 comes in a warm Everose gold case and the hour markers are highlighted in gradated sapphires to match those set on the bezel. Warmer and more harmonious than its white and yellow gold predecessors, the 2018 Cosmograph Daytona recreates the colours of the rainbow with extraordinary beauty and showcases the superlative skills of Rolex’ gemmologists and gem-setters.

Review – Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524R – A Time For Reconciliation

Let’s be honest… The Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524G (the white gold version) was a hot topic of discussion when launched at Baselworld 2015. Whatever the intrinsic qualities of this watch, it has been misunderstood. Too early, too radical, too different maybe. 3 years have passed now and there’s a new version in the collection, now in rose gold with a warm brown dial, under the ref. 5524R. With this new combination of colours, we think it’s time for the reconciliation. Let’s have a closer look at the now very-Patekish Rose gold Calatrava Pilot.
