SIHH 2019 – Ressence Type 1 Slim – Thinner, More Modern

Since its introduction in 2014 (or even in 2010 if you look at the very first Zero Series, which was the predecessor of this model), the Ressence Type 1 never ceased to evolve. From the lack of crown and the original display, then followed by several colours/finishing and finally the introduction of the Squared version, this watch has become an entire collection named “Air-Filled” (contrasting with the oil-filled watches). Being fast-forward-thinkers (just look at Type 2 to understand), Ressence thought it was about time to give its emblematic watch a touch of modernity. Meet the new Type 1 Slim.

SIHH 2019 – A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Date

It is hard to believe that Lange’s most daring watch, the Zeitwerk, has been launched in 2009. Several variants have been added to the collection since, all with chiming complications – Striking Time, Minute Repeater, Decimal Strike. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Lange’s first mechanical wristwatch with a precisely jumping digital display is endowed with a new manufacture calibre featuring a surprising extra function – and this time, it isn’t a chiming complication. Indeed, a glass ring date has been added to what is now named the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Date.

Introducing – Maurice Lacroix Aikon Mercury – with Patented “Free Hand” Display

With its Masterpiece collection, Maurice Lacroix has distinguished itself by creating unconventional complications – the Gravity, the Roue Carrée (squared-wheel), retrograde indications, the mysterious seconds… The brand is now infusing this spirit into its successful sporty collection with the Aikon Mercury, an original take on display, where hands are not always indicating the time.

SIHH 2019 – Ulysse Nardin Freak X – The New Entry Price Point for The Freak Collection (Hands-On)

The Freak watch has been a beloved rock star in the Ulysse Nardin line-up ever since its introduction to the world in 2001. Back then, the flying carrousel watch was an anomaly and many watch lovers were immediately smitten by its complex watchmaking and alluring design. it was also the watch that introduced silicium technology to the world – the Freak was, in 2001, the first watch featuring silicium elements to ever be commercialized. Since then, Ulysse Nardin continues to evolve the Freak. Even last year at SIHH, the brand offered the newest evolution, the Freak Vision, an automatic watch that incorporated a few top technical innovations from the prior year’s Innovision 2 Concept watch. Now, Ulysse Nardin takes the beloved hands-free watch to new heights with the Freak X – and to another price category too, as this Freak is even more affordable than the previous Freak Out.

Pre-SIHH 2019 – Ressence Type 2 e-Crown – The Final Version with Anthracite Case

Last year, at the SIHH 2018, Ressence introduced something very special! Review – Baume HRS Limited Edition Automatic – When Richemont goes Microbrand-Like

When you hear the word Baume, most would assume it’s referring to Baume & Mercier, a popular luxury watch brand dating back to 1830 and now part of the Richemont Group. And they’d be partially correct. Baume is an offshoot of Baume & Mercier with Marie Chassot (Product Marketing Director for Baume & Mercier) coming in as the lead, along with several other executives from the parent company. Baume is, however, very much an independent company with different design philosophies and strategic guidance, and a strong focus on sustainability.

Hands-on – Breguet Tradition Chronographe Indépendant ref. 7077

While the chronograph is certainly one of the most popular complications, most people do not realize that it is among the most complex mechanisms to develop and assemble. While most chronographs are based on a timekeeping “engine”, on which a second gear train engages to drive the chronograph, some folks found this idea inefficient (and […]
