A few months ago, we told you about the new Calypso Premium timepiece from Swedish micro-brand, E.C. Andersson, which at the time was seeking funding on Kickstarter. After a very successful campaign, the company is back with a new model in the Calypso range, called the Calypso Sport. Pitched as an entry-level model in the Calypso family, it offers many of the same aesthetic touches as its elder sibling but with a few variations to keep the price a little more wallet-friendly. EDITOR’S PICK: Predicting reissues may not be our forte, but here’s one of the best from 2017

Editor’s note: Following on from Felix’s post on Sunday, we were reminded that when it comes to predicting Baselworld watch releases, we don’t always get it exactly right. Especially when it comes to reissues. Whether it’s our own wants and desires that are trying to swing the vote towards something we’d like to see (I’m looking at you Omega … cough … Flightmaster). Or that in this ever-evolving and ever-growing industry there is bound to be watches that we just plumb forgot about. In either case, one that we absolutely did not see coming last year at Baselworld 2017 was this handsome little number from Rado, the HyperChrome Captain Cook. As far as reissues go, this one was a banger! And we here at T+T don’t mind making a few wrong predictions if it means we get to be surprised with watches like this one. The story in a second Who expected a drool-worthy heritage reissue from ceramic-focused Rado at Baselworld? No one, that’s who. While Rado is particularly well-known for their use of high-tech ceramic and hard metals, they’ve got a long history in water resistant and dive watches, launching their sporty ‘Green Horse’ series of watches (with a particularly cute seahorses…

MY MONTH WITH: The H. Moser & Cie Pioneer (and why I bought one)

I’m eternally fascinated by the drivers of a watch purchase. The behaviours and the catalyst/s that can precede the moment one decides they want to invest in a wristwatch. What’s most intriguing is how totally different the process can be, based on the watch. For example, this one, and my journey to it. From a personal point of view, what leads me to that most happy of hashtags — #newwatchalert — more than anything else is research. Lots of collecting images. Lots of review reading. A constant saving of Instagram pics to my phone gallery. Updating my desktop to a high-res shot that captures it just so. This progresses, indubitably, to a ‘conversation’ (an attempt at a charm offensive, perfectly timed, with wine close at hand) with my wife, some ferrying around of funds, and eventually, all bridges crossed, a deal done. The interesting thing about the way I bought the H. Moser & Cie Pioneer with midnight blue dial is that none of these things happened. Not one. I didn’t have a single picture of it anywhere!
