Fun In The Sun At The City Concours With Breguet And Glashütte Original

Just over a week ago, we told you about a cool new automotive event that was taking place in Central London; the City Concours. With a number of gorgeous cars on display, not to mention the opportunity to handle some lovely watches from official timepiece sponsors, Glashütte Original and Breguet, we donned our sunglasses (a rare treat in London in and of itself) and headed down to check out the show.

WHO TO FOLLOW: @bzabodyn214

Brandon’s one of the big personalities of the Instagram watch fam, with a revolving collection and crisp photography. He’s one of the guys behind Head2HeadCopycat and calls Texas home. Hook ’em horns! NAME: Brandon Zabodyn OCCUPATION: Commercial Banker HANDLE: @bzabodyn214 FOLLOWERS: 33k LOCATION: Texas, USA Tell us about yourself. I’m Texas born and raised. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Jenna, and have two kids, Dayton and Mallory, who pop up on the feed every now and then. We both graduated from the University of Texas and love our Longhorns. I’ve been in banking for around 14 years but recently took a brief break to help the family business (scrap metal recycling) during an expansion. I’ve always had a love for watches, going back to my days as a teenager, when I’d see the “successful” guys around town with gold Presidents and Submariners and such. In small-town Texas, there’s Rolex (you know, the only watch that doesn’t “tick”), then there’s everything else. When I was 16 I saved up for my first G-Shock, and then it was stolen several months later. As funny as it is, that actually sparked it for me. The first “real” watch I bought myself (after I got my first bonus at my…

VIDEO: Montblanc’s Orbis Terrarum UNICEF limited edition

Montblanc's limited edition Orbis Terrarum for UNICEF, on the wrist for video reviewWhen they’re done right, limited edition watches are great. They offer some exclusivity, membership to a special club, and that feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself. When they’re done badly, limited editions are merely a poorly thought-out logo whacked on a dial. Thankfully this UNICEF limited edition is very much in the former camp. Montblanc has taken one of their coolest models, the Orbis Terrarum, made some super-subtle design tweaks and wrapped it all into a very worthy cause. Who wouldn’t like it? Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum LATIN UNICEF Australian pricing and availability Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum LATIN UNICEF, limited to 500 pieces, $8,400

Classic with a Twist – The new 39mm Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered

A classic with a twist… Much to our satisfaction, we have been seeing smaller watches re-emerge over the past few years. Case in point, the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde off-centered is now available with a 39mm case, in place of the usual 43mm versions, maybe too large to be called dress watches. Things change. We go hands on with this chic timepiece.

VIDEO: Longines is auctioning 3 Flagship Heritage watches online – bid, win and Kate Winslet will personally give it to you

Money can’t buy experiences are so-called for a reason. They’re more about connections than cash. But Longines is offering three people an impossibly rare watch along with the chance to be treated (and to travel) like royalty when they receive it at an event somewhere in the world from none other than Kate Winslet, whose foundation to help autistic children will receive all of the proceeds. Not a portion, the entire amount. The three winners will even get to take a friend or partner. In addition to this trip, the winner +1 will also be gifted another international trip to an event of their choosing. Let’s be real. This is a feel-good story of Titanic proportions that the two of you will dine out on for the rest of your life. So let’s get to it. Here’s what you need to know: Five 18k gold Flagship Heritage Limited edition watches have been designed and created in collaboration with Kate Winslet. One is owned by Kate, one has been set aside for the Longines museum and three are being auctioned online right now with all proceeds going to Kate’s Golden Hat Foundation. The bidding starts at $25k. Considering that business class flights alone…

LIST: You could buy one of these 5 watches … or put a deposit on a house

Australia’s property market is brutal right now, with some eye-watering prices and fierce competition. Even if you’re in a position to buy, getting some actual skin in the game is hard, thanks to the shark pool known as the Saturday morning auction schedule. So, if you’ve lucked out one time too many, you might be tempted to throw in the towel, eat your weight in avocado toast and spend the deposit on a nice watch instead. Here are five contenders (all currently available in Australia, just FYI). Patek Philippe 5270G If we had to peg this gorgeous blue-dialled perpetual calendar chronograph from Patek to a suburb, it’d definitely be Sydney’s Vaucluse. $213,750 MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual MB&F’s super complicated version of the Legacy Machine is edgy, chic and super exclusive, just like Fitzroy. $232,600 Greubel Forsey Signature 1   If you’re in the market for a Greubel Forsey – widely regarded as one of the finest ateliers working today – you’ve already got quite the portfolio under your belt. Perhaps it’s an alternative to your city penthouse? $267,000 Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement L.M. If you appreciate modern lines and cutting edge techniques, be it in architecture or watches, then this GP should…

Watches and Formula 1 – Episode 5 – The French Connection, Renault Sport F1 x Bell & Ross

Renault came into Formula 1 with a bang, which is to be taken quite literally. At a time where the rulebook seemed virtually limitless, the French manufacturer brought turbocharging into the mix. Fueled by an insatiable hunger for power, combined with ground effects aerodynamics and just about the most daring drivers Formula 1 has ever seen, the constructor pioneered its way to the top! Since 2016 they are back as a constructor and partnered with Bell & Ross, which seems like a very French match. Today we unravel the history of Renault in Formula 1 and why the connection to Bell & Ross is a very logical one.
