In this roundup, we take a look at one of my favorite new watches from last year, Rolex’s new Datejust 41. We also discuss much more, such as IWC’s new Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph watch, Bulgari’s ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton watch, Bremont’s two new dive watches, and how some watch brands’ pricing is just unrealistic.

Hands-On: The IWC Da Vinci Automatic 40mm (Live Pics, Details, Availability)

Coming out of SIHH, it was the complicated watches from IWC’s Da Vinci collection that were getting most of the attention. This includes both the very complicated models like the Perpetual Calendar Chronograph and the smaller complications such as the ladies’ moonphase. But for me it’s the time-and-date model that stands out as my favorite piece in the collection. It piqued my interest a few weeks ago, but after spending a few days with it I found myself enjoying it even more than I’d expected.

Patek Philippe Calibre 89 Uber-Complication Up For Sale (Again)

Introduced in 1989 for Patek Philippe’s 150th anniversary, the Calibre 89 was a landmark in watchmaking, becoming the most complicated watch (or rather portable timekeeper) ever made, boasting 33 complications. Though the Calibre has since been superseded by the Vacheron Constantin Ref. 57260 with 57 complications, the Calibre 89 held the record for so long it’s significantly more […]

Bring a Loupe: A LeJour Yachtingraf, A Tudor “Elegante”, Some Fake Longines 13ZNs, And More

This week, almost all our picks are coming directly from Ebay, for better and for worse (you will get two Bidder Bewares at once). You will find a well-named Tudor “Elegante,” a beautiful yellow gold Zenith chronograph, and some more shady Longines 13ZNs – one recently sold for more than $15,000 despite its fake dial and case. We will double down on the Bidder Beware with a strange-looking military Zenith. We will also include a correct LeJour Yachtingraf, in which you will recognize the design of the Yema Yachtingraf (which is logical since it stems actually from the one and same brand). This is your Bring A Loupe for March 10, 2017.

VIDEO – Going Where No Camera Has Gone Before – Our Documentary About The Omega Master Chronometer Certification

The Omega Master Chronometer is about the pursuit of the best possible movement. Not the most complex movement, not the one with the most features, or the craziest complications. No. With the Master Chronometer, Omega wanted to create a standard movement that will perform to the same high level in every situation, in every environment, in every possible condition. Heat, cold, magnetic fields, shocks… Everything you can imagine has been tested, ensuring precision, reliability and efficiency, everyday and everywhere. Believe it or not, this is a really big deal, more significant even than any tourbillon. Not only has Omega spent years on research and development, it has also created an entirely new way to certify these watches. Today, we bring you where no camera has ever been before; inside the Omega Master Chronometer Certification facilities.

Auction Report: Sotheby’s To Offer A Patek Philippe Caliber 89 In May At The ‘Important Watches’ Geneva Auction

Sotheby’s has just announced that it will offer a Patek Philippe Caliber 89 in its Important Watches sale in Geneva, on May 14th 2017. The Caliber 89 was originally created by Patek Philippe to celebrate the company’s 150th anniversary and was when it was revealed, in 1989, it was the most complicated watch in the world. There were only four made, and it wasn’t until nine years later that the other three were completed. Those three had rose gold, white gold, and platinum cases; the Caliber 89 offered by Sotheby’s is the first one completed, in a yellow gold case.
