Bulgari Octo Roma Watch For 2017 Hands-On

For 2017, Bulgari adds a new flavor to its popular Octo watch collection with the new Bulgari Octo Roma. At first glance, you’d be totally forgiven for not knowing that it is new or exactly what is new about it. Despite having a new case and dial, the magic Bulgari wanted to lend to the Octo Roma was that it look as though it was part of the Octo collection all along.

Straton Syncro Chronograph – A Micro Brand’s Third Watch

We rarely cover watches promoted on the crowdfunding source Kickstarter, but today we’ll take a look at what I’d consider to be a very well executed “retro racing” inspired piece, the Straton Syncro. I think that what you’ll see after reading this is that we are in a new era of flexible manufacturing and this […]

In House and Everything in between: Are collectors asking to be lied to?

Watch collectors (despite at times being possessed of geek-depth level of research and knowledge) is often prone to the same psychological quirks as any other average consumer. “In-house” is often just like any other criteria used to quantify a desirable, sometimes deeply technical object into a handful of easily digested…

VIDEO: Why I love my watch – with RedBar founder Adam Craniotes

If you like watches (you do) and exist in a digital age (also affirmative) there’s a good chance you’ve encountered the garrulous Adam Craniotes – heck you might have even seen his tour of NYC. And if you’ve come across @Craniotes, you’ve probably heard the story of his IWC Perpetual Calendar, and how he had to borrow cash off his mum to get it, and the Delilah-esque toll she exacted. (We’re not going to tell you that story, but you can read up on it here if you like.) On this occasion, we asked Adam to tell us about his Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Alarm Navy SEALs (the Incursion Edition, just in case you were wondering). As with all things this modern-day raconteur is involved with, there’s a tale behind the watch. A tale of deceit and skulduggery we’re sure will resonate with many of you…

Chanel Introduces the Monsieur de Chanel in Platinum with Black Grand Feu Enamel Dial

Last year Chanel introduced its first wristwatch that was conceived from the ground up as a men’s watch, the surprisingly impressive Monsieur de Chanel. Now Chanel has given it a platinum case and black vitreous enamel dial, making it a lot more handsome – and twice the price of the gold versions. The dial is black grand feu […]

Haute Complication: A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual

By Martin Green
Lange & Söhne is one of those brands that knows that it pays to be patient. With a loyal base of knowledgeable watch connoisseurs as their main clients, they can probably sell out each year a new addition to their “Pour le Mérite” collection. Yet, they don’t. In fact, the new Tourbograph Perpetual is only the fifth watch to be part of this exclusive collection since it was first launched in 1994. Back then it was the very first wristwatch to feature a fusée-and-chain transmission, something that we can also find in the new Tourbograph Perpetual.

VIDEO: Panerai 2017 collection overview and our 3 favourites *post may contain traces of bronze*

Panerai kicked off 2017 with a bang. The brand that artfully bolts together ‘Italian design and Swiss precision’ showed a cohesive range with a strong material focus at SIHH in January. At the collection’s core was the mighty Luminor Submersible in many shapes and sizes. Andrew and I picked our three favourite takes on this diver’s diver, and it quickly became clear just how versatile the Submersible is: from dressy to everyday to downright lustworthy. All that’s needed is a change of case metal and a new dial. The only question is, which watch wouldn’t Andrew shut up about?

The Value Proposition: The Longines Avigation Type A-7 1935, An Unusual Pilot’s Watch That Will Slowly (But Surely) Grow On You

Trench coats, bomber jackets, combat boots. Military gear has never been so fashionable. The same goes for military-issued wristwatches. Those made in times of war have never been so collectable. But unlike the items of apparel listed above, which are now considered classic menswear, wristwatches styled after those made during the first half of the 20th century look, well, dated. None more so than the new Longines Type A-7 1935. But stick with me here, I promise it’s worth it.

We all know that when it comes to space exploration the Omega Speedmaster is the watch. It was flown on countless important missions, including Apollo 11, the first to put men on the moon, and beat out watches from Rolex, Longines, and others to become the official NASA choice. In fact, it’s still the choice of astronauts today. But in 2003 Breitling gifted a few dozen aviation pioneers with special commemorative chronographs and we’ve found that of Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronaut Wally Schirra for sale online.
