Clean, inspired, well-powered, coming from an old Maison, which at first was not that inclined in doing watches, but that managed with the time to be respected, the Slim d’Hermès was a refreshing surprise when introduced. Its style is undoubtedly elegant and sleek, while sharing the codes of this famous brand. The best came from a superb ultra-thin movement with micro-rotor, which could even be fitted with a complex perpetual calendar mechanism. For the 2017 edition of Baselworld, the latter comes in a new variation, the Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel Platine / Blue dial.

Just in time for the upcoming SIHH 2017, HYT unveils an exciting new timepiece that blends history with futuristic concepts. In its all new Skull Pocket watch, the brand combines its famed liquid time indication with a mechanical light source to enhance the dial and time-telling function — all in a modern, yet vintage-inspired, pocket watch rendition. This marks the brand’s first-ever skull, mechanical light source combination. It is also the brand’s first pocket watch.
Marvel comic villains looking for a dramatic statement piece used to measure the countdown to interplanetary destruction will be pleased to learn of the newly announced HYT Skull Pocket Watch – a wild reinterpretation of the humble pocketwatch that would have its inventor, clockmaker Peter Henlein, rolling in his Nuremberg grave.
Two thousand and sixteen will surely go down in the annals of watch-lore as the year of the Daytona. Not only did Rolex finally update their stainless steel icon, but they also unveiled two new precious metal versions. We’ve already looked at the oh-so-shiny green and yellow gold version, and today we hold in our hands the slightly more understated white gold option. The main change here is, of course, the dial. The iridescent blue starburst is called, somewhat unimaginatively, ‘blue’ by Rolex. We were hoping for something more romantic, like ‘ocean depths’ or ‘arctic night’. Regardless of what you call it, the dial is a stunner, and the perfect counterpoint to the high shine of the heavy white gold case, especially with the red highlights on the counters and the ‘Daytona’ text. As far as colour combos go, this one works beautifully – understated and distinctive all at the same time. Unlike its steel brethren, the bezel on the 116509 hasn’t recieved a ceramic upgrade, and is still polished gold, though the tachy text is in the new radial style. The calibre 4130 ticks away behind the scenes, with superlative accuracy. Of the three different metal versions of the Daytona Rolex…
