Lepsi Watch Analyzer Review

For those of us who have not studied the art of watchmaking and repair, knowing what is going on inside the movements of our mechanical watches can be daunting. That is, until a tidy tool came along in the form of the Lepsi Watch Analyzer that attaches to a watch, measures important indicators of its health and performance, and tracks it handily on your smartphone.

EVENT: Aussies do it blacker, celebrating 10 years of Hublot All Black watches in Sydney

unspecified-15‘Black’ is a term that has come to denote the best in luxury. Anyone who has either accidentally, and I’m looking at myself here, or intentionally ordered an Uber Black knows that to be true. Hublot’s All Black event, to mark 10 years since the first All Black model was released, and showcasing all the ensuing models in a glistening volcanic rock display centrepiece, did not challenge the modern logic that when it comes to luxury, and to taxis, black is better than platinum. Hublot has never done things by halves. When the brand chooses ambassadors, they choose the fittest, the fastest (of all time) and the foxiest (hello Bar, if you’re reading). When they present at Baselworld, it’s in a towering booth with eye-popping visuals cascading down every surface, crafty watch podiums that seem unprotected until you try swiping one, and a seemingly endless supply of Chairman Mr Biver’s homemade cheese inside. The same pattern holds for Hublot events, which in recent history have included a sunny day on Sydney Harbour, with the same Mr Biver and our very own Michael Clarke and an intimate night with one of the biggest soccer clubs in the world. As an opener, let’s just…

Some Lessons From Christie’s Latest Auction In Geneva (Spoiler Alert: Vintage Patek Is Still King)

The last few days were high auction season in Geneva. Just one day after Phillips’s two-day sale that included the stainless steel Patek Philippe 1518, now the most expensive wristwatch ever sold, Christie’s offered nothing less than 320 watches, and with impressive results. At the end of the day, the Rare Watches sale had netted 14,702,500 CHF (approximately $14,864,227 at time of publishing), selling 88% of the lots. Both the best performing watches and the few unsold lots allow a number of interesting insights into the current state of the vintage market, some very much aligned with the main takeaways from the Phillips auction too.

Photo Report: A Visit To The MB&F M.A.D. Gallery In Dubai

Even before either of us touched down in Dubai, Arthur and I knew there was one can’t-miss stop we’d have to make away from the Dubai Watch Week fairgrounds: MB&F’s M.A.D. Gallery. The third outpost of the company’s combination watch boutique/art gallery concept, the Dubai M.A.D. Gallery opened earlier this year in Alserkal Avenue, a hip art and design district that was born out of some derelict industrial space. It’s literally a bunch of warehouses on the side of a major highway, but it’s some to some of the best galleries in the Middle East, and the M.A.D. Gallery fits right in.

Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Concrete Jungle Watch

It’s always at least interesting for watch enthusiasts to witness new releases and unexpected collaborations from Hublot. Their latest brings visionary street artist Tristan Eaton to the helm for what the brand calls an “homage to one of the world’s most iconic cities.” The result is the Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Concrete Jungle watch, a tribute to New York City.

Just Because: Two Of The Most Expensive, Most Rare, And Most Absurd Rolex Daytonas In The World, Next To Each Other (Reference 6270 x2!)

Today is the Oman National Day – bet many of you did not know that. But it’s true – the day marks Oman’s independence from Portugal in 1650, and is celebrated by way of a two-day break and several state-organized events, including parades, fireworks, camel races, you name it. Being that it’s Oman National Day, I was reminded of some photos I had taken not long ago – actually the day Alfredo Paramico came by the office to film an interview about owning the now $11 million steel 1518. The photos are of two Daytonas, both of which belong to Alfredo, and both of which were made for his Majesty Qaboos Bin Said of Oman. They are indeed, two of the most rare, expensive, and patently absurd Daytonas on planet earth – and we have them next to each other.

Bring a Loupe: A Tropical Omega Flightmaster Ref. 145.013, A Great Longines 13ZN, A Yellow Gold Rolex Datejust 1601 With Malachite Dial, And More

This week, Bring A Loupe focuses on very different chronographs, from a 1940s Longines 13ZN to an Omega Flightmaster with a tropical Mk1 dial. Speaking of dials, you will also find here a yellow gold Datejust with a rare malachite dial, and an interesting Universal Genève Tri-Compax, although its bezel appears problematic, to say the least. And we’ve also found a full-set original Zenith El Primero reference G381, in yellow gold.
