HANDS ON: First look at the Tudor Pelagos LHD – live pics, price

tudor-pelagos-lhd-sliderOnce again, Tudor has surprised and tempted us with a brand new release just before Christmas – the Tudor Pelagos LHD. On the whole it’s the same Pelagos we know and love, with just a few tweaks – but these small changes combine to show the watch in a completely new light. First of all, the case. It’s the same 42mm titanium case we’re used to, with one not-so-minor difference – the crown is on the left, a feature that gives the watch its left-hand drive sobriquet. The inspiration for this unusual configuration comes from the brand’s past. In the 1970s, the Tudor Submariner was the watch of choice for French Naval divers. Some of these were delivered in a left-handed format – perhaps for divers who wore the watch on their right hand, or perhaps simply so the prominent crown wouldn’t catch or dig into the wrist. Bear in mind, of course, that just because this is intended to be worn on the right doesn’t mean you can’t wear it on your left hand – I did, and quite enjoyed the lack of interfering crown. An interesting side note is that because the crown is on the left, COSC tested the MT5612-LHD movement in different…

VIDEO: Paradise found with Vacheron Constantin, shot on location at Lord Howe Island

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-5-53-56-pmWe gave a glimpse of our 48 hours in paradise with the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection a month ago, but now, with the watches officially revealed and reviewed, it’s time to turn up the envy to unforeseen levels. In addition to mouthwatering shots of the collection, hands-down one of the best in the steel sports category this year, we’re also showing here just how spectacular Lord Howe Island is. From the volcanic peaks, to the friendly schools of fish that mill around your ankles in the shallows, to the outlook from the luxury Capella Lodge where my room had, just months before, been home to Blake Lively during the shooting of shark-as-villain thriller The Shallows. It’s all here, as well as our rationale for why we chose this place to explore the Overseas collection.

New Release: Tudor Pelagos LHD

When Tudor first launched teasers for the November 17th launch, little did we know they were about to unveil the Tudor Pelagos LHD or Left Hand Drive “Destro” Titanium Diver. In fact, mea culpa, I was lulled into expectations of a Tudor Diver’s watch following in the same footsteps as the Tudor Bronze –…

Hands-On: The Ochs Und Junior Perpetual Calendar, An Exercise In Creating Complexity From Simplicity

This watch is a lot more complicated than it looks. But also a lot simpler. We’ve described Ochs und Junior’s watches as “rigorously simple” in the past, and this latest addition is no exception. The Ochs und Junior Perpetual Calendar uses just nine additional parts and a completely number and letter-free display, to add a perpetual calendar to a simple time-and-date movement. Back in June we gave you an early look at this new watch, but last week I got some real wrist time with a production model and have to say, I didn’t want to send it back home to Lucerne.

Tudor Introduces the Pelagos LHD, a Left-Handed “Destro” Diver

Short for “left-hand drive”, the Pelagos LHD (ref. 25610TNL) is the destro version of Tudor’s top of the line, 500m dive watch that’s also enjoy a vintage-inspired facelift. And the new Pelagos costs the same the the ordinary Pelagos. In the 1970s Tudor famously supplied dive watches to the France’s Marine Nationale. Nearly all these “snowflake” Submariners (the refs.
