More than 160 years ago, before becoming purveyors and then eventually makers of fine timepieces, two young partners started out as a Stationer and retailer of ‘fancy goods’ on the lower west side of Manhattan in 1837, the company? Tiffany & Young.…
Ordinarily available only in black with orange accents, Maurice Lacroix‘s top of the line watch is nonetheless accessibly priced. Inspired by the colour of southern blue devil, a longfin fish native to Southern Australia, the Pontos S Diver Blue Devil is a limited edition available only in North America. Rated to 600m, the 43mm stainless steel case has two crown – one […]
The Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver has been covered before, but now the Swiss brand is offering a new iteration; the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver “Blue Devil” Limited Edition. It has all the design elements that made the original Pontos S Diver so cool but in a new color derived from… a fish! Usually it is something of a historical reference, the ocean itself or simply the best legible color combination available that determines the look of a watch. Well, not in this case.
I’m not sure the timing of the new Pilot’s collection was coincidental or not, but if so, IWC is quite fortunate that its strongest family of watches was ready to be launched during one of the most challenging years in recent memory for the industry. The IWC Pilot’s watches are true icons (we don’t use that word lightly), and the latest crop is especially strong. In addition to the usual time-only Mark models, the bold chronographs, and the Big Pilots, the manufacture spent the two years working hard to make sure the Timezoner Chronograph 3950 would be part of the 2016 lineup. Its a big part of the new collection, both figuratively and literally.

Ian will be hosting the seminar “In conversation: Kari Voutilainen” while I have curated the exhibition, “Métiers d’Art: Art of Time.”
What is Speedy Tuesday? It all started in a sunny Cannes in 2012, where I stayed over for a holiday. I also remember it was actually in the Radison Blu hotel there, where I made a wristshot of one of my Speedmaster watches and posted it on-line saying “Speedy Tuesday” (it was a Tuesday). Then, […]

Spitfire P7350 has the twin distinctions of being “the oldest airworthy Spitfire in the world and the only Spitfire still flying to have actually fought in the Battle of Britain”, according to the Royal Air Force. It entered service in August 1940, and now a tiny piece of the aircraft is part of the prototype Christopher […]
Tattoo artist Benjamin Laukis cuts a dashing figure. Impeccably dressed, impressively inked – people tend to notice when Laukis walks into a room. He’s also a gentleman in the truest sense of the word, and a watch collector of great integrity and taste. We caught up with Ben at his Northcote studio, The Black Mark, to find out about his passion for his art, and the powerful attraction he feels to the handmade over the mass-produced. Given all this, Laukis’ choice of watch is apt, the vintage lines of the TAG Heuer Calibre 18 Telemeter looks perfect on his unmistakeable wrist.
