Editor’s Note: Every single watch journalist in the world has a readymade answer / answers to the question, “So, watch writer, what should I buy if I’m going to get just one good watch?” This was a recent stab at it for Executive Style in Melbourne. The Mark Zuckerberg bombshell regarding his wardrobe choices should be received as very good news for those wanting to buy one great watch, and be done with it. Quizzed on his daily ensemble, which consists primarily of a grey t-shirt, he said in a Q&A session with the Telegraph: “I want to clear my life so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community. There’s a psychology theory that even making small decisions around what you wear…or things like that make you tired and consume your energy.” With this in, mind we felt that it would be prudent to hunt down the very best single watch you could invest in for everyday wear. At Baselworld 2016, Glashütte Original release a simple three-hand watch called the Senator Excellence as a home for its new high-performance automatic movement, the caliber 36. Now the German watchmaker has released two new watches additions to the Senator Excellence collection, adding some complications to the caliber 36 base. The Senator Excellence Panorama Date and the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase start the same way as their predecessor, just bringing a little more to the mix.
Habring² is the brainchild of husband and wife Richard Habring and Maria Habring. Based in Austria, they have since 2004 concentrated on making sturdily-built, no-nonsense watches of high technical quality and solid chronometric credentials, often taking outsourced base movements and introducing unusual complications like the foudroyante (lightning seconds) and deadbeat/jumping seconds. The Erwin, however, is the duo’s first jumping seconds watch based on their own in-house Caliber A11.
