GONE IN 60 SECONDS: Dress blues – the Bell & Ross BR 126 Aeronavale video review

bell-ross-126-aeronaval-slider-2After their square instrument pieces, Bell & Ross has made quite an impression with their vintage collection – a range of more classically styled round pieces that often riff on the icons of aviation. The BR 126 Aeronavale is a little different. The handsome, gold-accented blue chronograph is directly inspired by the uniforms, rather than the planes, of the air arm of the French Navy – the Aeronavale. It’s also a watch that you need to see shimmering and flashing in real life to truly appreciate.

Introducing the Romain Gauthier Enraged Editions in All-Black Titanium and Enamel

The curiously named Enraged Editions are Romain Gauthier’s take on a cutting edge aesthetic, with the all-black treatment applied to both the chain-and-fusee Logical One and time-only HMS – short for “hours, minutes, seconds”. While very different from the typical Romain Gauthier timepiece, the Enraged Editions stick to the well worn formula of a sporty-ish, all-black look that […]

You Are There: HYT, Alinghi, And The Extreme Sailing Series In Lisbon

Wind rushing through your hair. Sun kissing your face. Refreshing water beads cooling you off. Sailing can be somewhat addictive, especially in gorgeous locations like Lisbon, Portugal. But perhaps not quite as addictive as the timepieces that HYT has created to honor its sailing partner, Alinghi: the H2 and H4 Alinghi editions.

Weekend Reading: How NASA Settled On The Omega Speedmaster For Sending Man To The Moon

Everybody knows that the Omega Speedmaster Professional is the “moonwatch,” having occupied the valuable wrist real estate of the Apollo 11 astronauts as they made their way to the Moon for the first time in human history. But few know how that vaunted Swiss chronograph landed there and why the experts at NASA chose the Speedy instead of, say, the Rolex Daytona or a similarly capable Longines chronograph. Daniel Hug of the Zürich newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung‘s Bellevue magazine has found some official NASA documents though that cast some light of exactly how the now-famous Omega was cleared for flight.

Smartwatches Will Be A Highway To High-End Watches

A principle fear of watch lovers is that the advent of smartwatches and their eventual dominance might finally render traditional mechanical watches, once and for all, extinct. With that said, I suggest to you that smartwatches will create a fertile market for increased watch demand that will invariably be beneficial for the luxury mechanical watch industry.

HOW TO: Master the difference between watchspotting and stalking

1cev7qEditor’s Note: I wrote this piece a few years ago, and reading it now, all I feel compelled to add is this: learn your bracelets. If you can tell a Jubilee from a Link, or if you can spot the subtle differences between a Bulgari, Vacheron and Audemars Piguet bracelet, you’re well and truly on your way to the brand and model. Stay safe out there spotters, nobody likes a stalker.  Watch spotting. Don’t be shy, we all do it, and with varying levels of sophistication. Some among us are smooth as silk, spotting a watch half a room away, approaching the wearer with a smile and leaving shortly after with a photo, a story and the holy grail – a price. If you’re not already that guy, you can be. The scenario should be familiar. You’re walking down the street with your beloved and you spot a beautiful creature coming towards you. Whatever spins your tourbillon cage – Ryan Gosling’s junk, Nicki Minaj’s trunk – picture it, and squeeze it into something tight. You look down, sideways, anywhere but in their direction. You squeeze your partner’s hand tightly. All of a sudden you become intensely interested in shop displays, the pavement,…
