Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale Chronograph Watch Review

There is something uniquely special about a nicely executed, simple chronograph. At a time, when everything has to be explained, scrutinized and analyzed, every once in a while, it just feels sweet to be able to lean back and enjoy the perks of a job done well. Once you cut the whole “’70s vintage-inspired” malarkey, that is what you end up with the Girard-Perregaux Competizione Stradale Chronograph. Let us now explain, scrutinize, and analyze.

Introducing: The New Rado Ceramica, By German Industrial Designer Konstantin Grcic

After releasing this HyperChrome Ultra Light at Baseworld back in March, I think it is safe to say that Rado is quietly doing some seriously cool stuff right now. The latest example hit our inboxes this morning: the brand has partnered with prolific industrial designer Konstantin Grcic to re-launch its iconic Ceramica watch line, originally introduced in 1990. Since then, the Ceramica’s profile has been the very definition of Rado and now it gets some new flavor from a highly-respected designer.

Funky Colors For Emmanuel Bouchet’s Head-Turning Complication One

We are big fans of Bouchet’s work in general and the ingeniously complicated Complication One in particular. What we were shown at Baselworld 2016, though, was truly imaginative: funky new, definitely out-of-the-ordinary colors for such a serious and technical timepiece.

The U.K.’s Most Beloved Speaking Clock Is Getting A New Voice For Its 80th Birthday

One thing you shouldn’t have to pay for is the time. I mean, if you own a watch, a smartphone, a computer, or basically any object that either plugs in or takes a battery, you’ve likely got the time right there. And yet, in the U.K. a paid telephone service has been receiving millions of phones calls per year, every year since 1936, from people that just want to be told what time it is. The service, which is provided by BT, answered around 12 million in 2015, according to their own figures.

Hands-on – Andreas Strehler Papillon Sauterelle à Lune Exacte – The Most Precise MoonPhase Wristwatch Ever

Watchmakers are like all boys. When it comes to numbers, being first or having the greatest is always better – even if having the biggest (watch of course…) is not always desirable. Watchmakers always looked for the most complicated watch, for the watch with the most features, for the most precise movement or for the lightest case. And even when it comes to a specific complication, being the most accurate is a very good marketing argument – which of course always implies stupendous technical developments and immense watchmaking skills. In terms of MoonPhase, the title for the most precise was already in the hands of Andreas Strehler, but it’s now even better with his new Papillon Sauterelle à Lune Exacte.

Review: Blancpain Ladybird

The Blancpain Ladybird was born more than half a century ago and in 1956, it was considered to be the world’s smallest round watch. This feat was made possible with the unveiling of the smallest round movement made back then, the R550 caliber was impressive and at a mere 11.85 mm in diameter, it boasted a power reserve of up to 40 hours that…

Hands-On: The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso One Cordonnet Presents A Pretty Strong Argument For Tiny Women’s Watches

Size. It’s something that always comes up when we discuss watches. Whether you are into a 36mm Oyster Perpetual or a 47mm Panerai, size is a hot topic that people feel very strongly about (especially when it comes to women and the watches they wear). In my time at HODINKEE, I have come to realize that there are two schools of thought on the ideal watch diameter for a woman: staunchly less than 36mm and a more laissez-faire “you do you” approach. If you have read any of my recent articles, you will know that I fall squarely into the latter category.

TAG Heuer is making a play for space exploration history as the official timekeeper of China’s Mars Exploration Program.
